The Oakland Golden Grizzlies welcomed the Milwaukee Panthers to the Oakland Soccer Field for a Horizon League affair. It was one that ended with the Golden Grizzlies storming back from down 1, ending the match on a 2-0 swing.
The visiting Panthers came out of the gate blazing, scoring just 2 minutes and 43 seconds into the match. That goal was attributed to #17 Alan Lopez and assisted by #22 Raul Medina.
From there on out, the ball would be on the Panthers half of the pitch, dominated by Oakland’s ability to play keep-away. That keep-away would eventually result in the Golden Grizzlies bringing home a goal, occurring 27:38 minutes into the match’s first half.
#9 Mikey Ketteman was the one to score this initial Oakland goal, having been assisted by #39 Luke Benford and #11 Donavan Phillip.
2 Yellow Cards were assessed during the match, with the most crucial being handed to the Golden Grizzlies. It followed Oakland’s 2nd goal from #10 Owen Smith at the 72:54 mark.
Some 7 minutes later, a Yellow Card was raised on #22 Marco Mazzei, who was also assessed a foul. With 7 seconds left on the clock, the visiting Panthers were awarded a match tying Free Kick.
Oakland Soccer withstood this last second challenge, with the Golden Grizzlies punting the ball outside of the goal area and beyond the penalty box to hold onto the 2-1 victory.
Oakland is now 2-2 in the Horizon League and 3-5-2 overall. They now go on the road to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct 7th and Western Michigan on Oct 11th.
The Golden Grizzlies return home on October 14th to face Wright State on homecoming weekend.
