Oakland won. Hooray.
The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Robert Morris Colonials in a homecoming after their draining Wisconsin road trips last weekend. The final score was 87-72.
Robert Morris came into this game off a tough 66-64 loss to the Cleveland State Vikings. They were the latest victims to Cleveland State’s tough home crowd, and ultimately couldn’t get the job done. As mentioned before, Oakland came into this game off a win against the Milwaukee Panthers in the UWM-Panther Arena, which no Horizon League team had done up to that point.
From the get-go, Oakland tilted the floor with Blake Lampman scoring an astounding 20 points in the first half, poised for 50 at the 4:30 minute mark of the first half. Robert Morris scored the first points of the game, and held a brief initial lead, but Oakland quickly took any chances away. The score was 40-30, Oakland to end the first half.
Oakland led the entire second half. Robert Morris scored some wide-open shots that threatened to kickstart a Colonial run, but Oakland squished those opportunities like bugs, with Jack Gohlke entering the party in the second half to total 19 points on the night. Ultimately, the Colonials couldn’t get enough good shots up and fell to Oakland’s unbelievable offensive night.
Robert Morris looks to get back on track in the must-win game of the year against the still-winless Detroit Mercy on February 3rd, 2024. Meanwhile, Oakland will face their toughest home test of the year against the Cleveland State Vikings, also on February 3rd, 2024.
WXOU’s next broadcast is on Saturday, February 3rd with the men’s game against the Vikings at 1pm. Giovanni Moceri will be play-by-play and Gavin Smilowski is on color. Tune in right here for live coverage!
