Oakland Dropped by Cleveland State 3 sets to 1

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies fall at home against 3rd place Cleveland State Vikings in four sets. Each team came into this game in very different positions.


The Golden Grizzlies entered this game with a conference record of 3-8 sitting in 9th place looking to keep their distance for the last place Youngstown State. The Vikings come to Auburn Hills of a 3-game win streak with a conference record of 7-4 looking to stay in the top 3 of the Horizon League Volleyball standings.


Set 1 began with an early lead from the Vikings through the aggressive play of Ella Mihacevich. But Oakland would slowly take back control with 6 consecutive points, setting the score to 15-12 and eventually tie the set up at 21-21. The Vikings would take the set on three straight points to close out the first set 25-22.


Oakland would answer in set number 2 taking it in a nail biting 25-23 score foreshadowing to a close finish to this match. Rachel Rossman would take over setting up attack after attack with her team leading 27 assists.


Set number 3 would go to the Vikings in a masterclass performance by Nia Hall. Cleveland State takes the set 25-19 setting up chance to finish the game in a pivotal set number 4


The final set would come to an end in a Vikings victory 25-22. Despite Oaklands efforts to keep the game alive, Cleveland State showed impressive strength up close with team kill leaders Liberty Torres, Nia Hall, and JeriLynn Koehler with 19, 14, and 10 kills. Oaklands record moves to 3-9 in conference while Cleveland State improves to 8-4. Oakland heads to Ohio for two games against the last place Youngstown State Penguins.


The Golden Grizzlies Men's Basketball team will take on Defiance in WXOU's next broadcast on Monday November 4th.
