History is a vital part to society, and I’m here to put it on display for you. Each week (hopefully) I’ll give you all a little snippet into the history of whatever week we’re in, for example, in this edition I’ll give you some history for the week of the 27th (this week), and the week of the 1st of December. Some weeks I’ll focus more heavily on the areas that I study in depth, and others I’ll focus more on things that I know little about: it gives me a chance to study up on topics that I want to eventually explore but haven’t had the time to.

One of the most daring missions of the Vietnam war
Lt. James P. Fleming and four Bell UH-1F pilots got an urgent message from a special forces team who were stuck behind enemy fire
Lt. Fleming carried on with the rescue effort despite other helicopters having to leave to refuel. Because of heavy fire on the ground, the first rescue attempt failed.
Refusing to leave the Army Green Berets behind, Fleming decided to go back in and pick the team up.
Arriving back at his air base, it was discovered that Fleming's aircraft was nearly out of fuel; a disaster waiting to happen.
Lt. Fleming received a Medal of Honor for his bravery in times of trouble and war

Terry Anderson (hostage) freed in Lebanon
American journalist, Terry Anderson, was released after 2454 days of being held captive.
He was captured on west Beirut Street while leaving a tennis court and was taken to the southern suburbs of the city.
Him as well as other captives, were linked to the group, Hezbollah, who seized several Americans after the courts had jailed 17 Shiites for bombing American and French embassies.
Anderson sued the Iranian government for 100 million, accusing them of praising and sponsoring his kidnappers, and received a multi-million-dollar segment.
Hopefully I'll get to do this every month (time allowing). Now that the semester is finished, I'll be cooking up some more of these on break as "mini articles." I hope you all enjoy your break and catch up on some well needed rest.
Take care,
Matt Weed
