After a 0-2 deficit that looked insurmountable, the Golden Grizzlies returned to winning fashion by taking 3 straight sets, and the match at the OU Credit Union O’rena vs. Northern Kentucky on Friday.
Many points came early in the 1st set from both teams playing the ball out of bounds. After keeping it close for time, Oakland’s errors became too much for head coach Krista Rice to stomach, who would make needed substitutions down 7-11. It proved successful, as the Golden Grizzlies rallied back into contention. Northern Kentucky, despite this, would go on to take the set 25-22.
The 2nd set commenced, and Northern Kentucky’s frontline proved too much, with their early 7-1 run consisting of primarily instant kills. Oakland did put in enough effort to get back into the set and make it respectable, falling 25-19.
The 3rd set finally welcomed the Golden Grizzlies to competitive play and a set won. 25-21 was the finish.
The Golden Grizzlies brought the same tenacity in the 4th set and won it with the same final score.
Oakland, after forcing a 5th set, took it 15-10.
Winning the set 3-2, the Golden Grizzlies jump to 15-10 on the year and 9-4 in conference play. They host Wright State for ‘Volleyween’ Night Saturday, Oct 28th.
