Wrapping up a busy and festive Homecoming weekend, Oakland welcomed Horizon League rival Green Bay for a match on the Oakland Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies were 5-5-5 entering today, and the struggling Green Bay Phoenix were 0-9-5.

Much of the first half was spent on the Golden Grizzlies half of the pitch. Goalie Julia Zangerl played those unfortunate cards well, though, with the goal kept successfully, as she amassed 4 saves in the half.

Phoenix Goalie Mallorie Benhart, likewise, shut out the Golden Grizzlies with 3 saves in the first half.

A Yellow Card was assessed to Jayna Fraser at 44:55, leaving the visiting Phoenix with 5.2 seconds to initiate some kind of momentum going into the half with a free kick. This ultimately just ended in a failed last-ditch effort for Green Bay to score.

As things shifted to the 2nd half, many of the same trends continued. Plenty of Zangerl and Benhart ball centering along with lots of right-field play. This half, though, it was the Golden Grizzlies dominating this side of the pitch.

Aggression did come into play for the Golden Grizzlies early, with Frankie Mudd going for a long shot at the goal around the 48-minute mark.

Things eventually dwindled down to the home stretch. A pause in the action came at 2:35 with an injury timeout for Oakland. The pressure for both teams was felt in these final 2 minutes and a half. Ultimately, neither team were able to act on this new sense of urgency, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Golden Grizzlies are now 5-5-6 on the year and 3-1-4 within the Horizon League and will host another Wisconsin foe, Milwaukee, on October 21st at 1 P.M.
